Dear Isaac,

Yesterday was a low-key day for Mommy and Daddy. We went to church and saw some of the neighbors there who hadn't been before. We were encouraged to see them there and hope that they return. We also spent some time at the pool. Daddy swam some laps to try to help his sore back and I just walked around in the water some.

We've been having bad luck at the pool lately; every time we go, it seems to rain shortly after we get there. Daddy and I went home and sat on the front porch watching the storm. We like to do that sometimes.

Isaac, I think about you all the time. I think about what you're doing in there in my tummy, what you are going to look like when we meet you, whether or not you'll be born with a head full of dark hair like both Daddy and I were, and what it will be like to hold you and kiss your sweet little face. I can't wait to meet you.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

We got to do a lot of fun things together yesterday! Breakfast with my girlfriends from college was great. I think you really liked the chocolate crepes I had... you did a little dance in my tummy afterwards!

When I got home Daddy suggested going for a hike. We went up to Sugarloaf Mountain to do what we thought would be a 2 1/2 mile hike. Instead it was a bit longer. It was so beautiful out. Here's a picture of Mommy and Daddy at the top:

Here is another one of the sun shining through the trees:

It was so nice to be out in God's creation and to be reminded of all the things He made. The Bible said when all of those things were made, that it was good. But, when God made people, the Bible says it was very good. Isaac, you are so special. God has fearfully and wonderfully made you, and Mommy and Daddy love you very, very much.

There are still so many things we want to do with you while we still have you here. I am so glad that it's summertime and we have the chance to be able to do a lot more.
You are so precious.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

I had been looking everywhere for a box in which to start collecting things that are "Isaac" things, like the name certificate Daddy made when we officially named you, and ultrasound photos from when we first got to see you. I had seen many boxes, but none of them seemed perfect; and I wanted it to be perfect. Yesterday in Jo Ann's Fabrics I found the perfect box. It is red and yellowish gold. On the front it has the quote that many people know, "Live well, love much, laugh often." The top of the box says, "Love much." We love you so much.

This box seemed perfect for so many reasons. First, your name means "he laughs" or "he will laugh." Whether it is in this life or with Jesus, I hope that you laugh often. The "love much" part seems obvious, but I wanted the box that said that part of the quote on the top because Mommy and Daddy love you so much. We love when we get to go for an ultrasound and see you move and wish so much you could see us, too. We love feeling you wiggle and move, and Daddy loves being able to kiss you goodnight. The "live well" part of the quote is what Mommy and Daddy want for each other, for ourselves, and for you.

I was really happy to have found this box because now I feel like your things can be kept safe in a special place. They are treasures to us, little pieces of who you are.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

Yesterday Mommy spent a lot of the day setting up for summer school. It went better than I had thought that it would. Daddy and I took a nice long walk around the neighborhood, seeing all the new houses and all the land they are digging up to put in new little shops. There are big trucks and machines everywhere!

Daddy and I had a nice relaxing dinner outside and just sat and talked for a while. It has been so warm out, even once the sun goes down. Both Daddy and I were pretty tired so we went to bed early.

Today I hope to get some chores done and spend some time in the pool since I didn't get to do that yesterday. Isaac, I think about you all the time. even when I busy working or doing other things, I still am praying for you, thinking about you, talking to you (when no one can hear me, of course), and rubbing my tummy so that you know I am there. You are so special and I am so proud to be your Mommy.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

Today Mommy has to actually go in to work. I really am not looking forward to it, but we have an important meeting about summer school and then will work to get our rooms set up. I would much rather spend time at the pool in the cool water, which I know you like.

Yesterday Daddy played golf with Chris, and then we met with Pastor Guy. He asked all about how you are doing and how he can pray for you. He encouraged us that even if we don't get to hold you very long, that you'd then be in the arms of Jesus. Mommy sometimes gets so confused because I want so much to be the one to hold you, read books to you, but a Band Aid on your boo-boos, jump waves and build sand castles at the beach with you... but I know that there's no better place to be than in the arms of Jesus. Please know that for however long you are with us, Mommy and Daddy will love you so completely.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

Yesterday was a busy day around here. The roofers came early to fix the little leak we've been having, and Daddy worked hard all day on cleaning the bathroom and fixing the dry wall in the ceiling where the leak came through. Your Daddy is so reliable and dependable, and always does his best at whatever he is doing.

I spent some time at the pool yesterday relaxing and reading. You must have been taking a nap and relaxing with me! Later in the evening Daddy and I rented a movie. I think you're a night owl like your Dad... you get so active at night! It was fun to be able to feel you wiggle. Daddy had his ear on my tummy to see if he could hear you moving (don' ask me... he thought he might have been able to) and then kissed you goodnight.

I am so grateful that God has given me the chance to enjoy being with you while you are here, Isaac. I would never want to look back at this time and regret not loving you as fully as possible. I am so grateful that I can enjoy feeling you move and talking to you and just being with you. It really is so special.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

June 24, 2008

Dear Isaac,

I want you to know that Mommy and Daddy are continuing to hear from people how your story... how you... have been touching their hearts and changing their lives. I am just so proud of you.

Yesterday was a pretty relaxing day for Mommy. I went to the gym (I think you like the elliptical machine... you wiggled the whole time!) while Daddy played golf, watched one of my favorite movies, Spanglish, and went to the pool with Daddy. It was a bit hot and we spent a lot of time in the water to cool off. I think you must have liked the water, too, because like the elliptical machine, you were moving around the whole time.

Lately I have been reading in my Bible sort of haphazardly, going back to verses and passages that I have marked in the past, looking for words that jump out at me and writing them down on pretty index cards. The past few days I keep coming back to Jeremiah 29:11 which says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." That verse makes me think so much of you, Isaac. I know that the Lord has plans for you... good plans. Those plans may be here on Earth, or in Heaven with Him. Already He has used you to make an impact on the lives of people, and like I said before, I am so proud of you. I know that God will keep you from harm, and that gives me great comfort.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

Yesterday was a beautiful day. Before church I got up and went for a walk/jog and had some time to just talk to you and to talk to God about you. I begged Him to heal your little body.

We had a special breakfast for Daddy's birthday... cheese omlettes and pancakes. His favorite! Mr. and Mrs. Geenlee saw us after church and they prayed for us, and for you. Mrs. Greenlee asked God to do a miracle so that you might grow up to be a strong healthy boy.

The crab feast was a lot of fun. Lots of people came out to see Daddy on his birthday, and we enjoyed the time with them sitting and picking crabs. Afterwards, we came home and Daddy and I talked. We talked all about you, Isaac, hoping you know how much we love you. Before falling asleep, Daddy rolled over and said that he wanted to kiss you goodnight, and so he kissed my tummy. We think about you, talk to you, and pray for you all the time. I can't wait to meet you.

I love you, Isaac.

Mommy

Dear Isaac,

Today is Daddy's birthday. He's turning 29... his last year before turning 30! I want you to know what an amazing person your Daddy is. He is funny, loves people, is so generous, and loves God so completely. He loves to put his hands on my tummy and feel you move, and like I told you before, you seem to like to hear his voice because you move around a lot when he is talking.

We are going out for crabs later to celebrate. They look really ugly, and they take a lot of work to pick, but they taste so good. Mommy and Daddy love going out for crabs. When you live in Maryland, it's one of those things people do. I am glad you'll get to go with us.

Yesterday I went for a massage. It was so relaxing. I think you must have liked it, too, because you didn't stop moving the whole time! Later, we went to Keith and Marisa's to celebrate Isabelle's first birthday. There were lots of little babies and kids everywhere. It made Mommy a little bit sad because I wish so much that I knew that we'd get to celebrate your first birthday, or that I would get to watch you run through a sprinkler, or that you'd eat watermelon and have the juice all over your mouth and all over your shirt. I just love you so much, Isaac, and am thankful for the little moments that you and I do get to share now, even if it's just when I lay on the bed with my hands on my tummy feeling you kick.

Isaac, you are so precious. Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you and are so thankful for you.

I love you.

Love,
Mommy

June 21, 2008

Dear Isaac,

All Mommy wanted to do yesterday was lay on the couch and feel you move. So that's what I did for a while. I had my hands on my tummy and ended up falling asleep while feeling you move all over the place. I was so glad to be able to spend that time with you.

I am very proud of you, Isaac. I received an e-mail from a woman whom I have never met saying how our story... your story... has touched her heart and has caused her to desire to reconnect with God. Another woman e-mailed me to tell me how much she is praying for you and how she is telling her little boy how brave you are. You matter, Isaac. Your life matters in this world. God has already begun to use you to reconcile other people to Himself. You are leaving a legacy. I am so proud of you.

Our small group met last night and we prayed for you. We prayed that God would heal your little body and that He would help Mommy and Daddy love you as wholly and as perfectly as we can while we have you hear. I hope so much that you know how much we love you. You are so precious to us.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

June 20, 2008

Dear Isaac,

Yesterday Daddy and I officially named you. I guess what I mean is that we knew we wanted your first name to be Isaac, but hadn't figured out a middle name for you. Daddy also felt like it was very important to do something together to make your name official. So we made a naming certificate and we both signed it. It was really special for Daddy to make that.

We gave you the middle name Timothy, which means "to honor God." We want nothing more than to honor God in the way that we love you and care for you while you are here with us. We want so much for you to know how much we love you, and how proud we are to be your parents; but even more so, we want you to know that you are God's child and that His perfect love reaches far deeper than ours ever could.

You were very busy again yesterday... moving and kicking all over the place. At one point, I felt you move on both sides of my tummy at the same time. It was really cute and had both Daddy and I laughing.

This morning you have been kicking up a storm. As I layed on the couch readng, enjoying the cool morning air through the windows, you were wiggling all over the place. You became still for a little bit, but as soon as Daddy came downstairs and started talking, you started to wiggle all over the place again. You must like his voice. It made us both smile.

I love you, Isaac.

Love,
Mommy

Dear Isaac,

Mommy felt you kicking and moving around so much last night. I am convinced that you really like it when I drink Zazz (that flavored seltzer water), even though Daddy thinks my theory is silly. I loved putting my hands on my tummy and just feeling you move. You were all over the place!

Yesterday we went to the pool with Kirsten and her kids Anne and Jack. We sat by the baby pool and kicked and splashed in the water. There were a few other mommies there with their kids, and they asked all about you... when you are due, if you are a boy or a girl. I loved being able to tell them about you. I am so proud of you.

I am looking forward to doing many other things this summer while you're still here, like going to the beach and playing in the ocean. I wish so much that I knew that I would have years and years with you to build other memories, too, but we just don't know. So, I want to do as much as I can with you while you are here with us.

We, and so many other people, are praying for you... for God to intervene and for your little body to be healed. I love you so much, Isaac. I can't wait to meet you.

Love,
Mommy

June 18, 2008

Dear Isaac,

I wanted to start this journal to tell you how much I love you. Eight weeks ago, Mommy felt like something wasn't right. I went to the doctor to have them check your heartbeat. They couldn't find it, so they sent me for an ultrasound. They found your heartbeat, but they also found some concerning things about your development.

We had some tests done, and waited. Had some more tests done, and waited. While we waited, we prayed and prayed. Our friends from small group came over and prayed for you, asking God to heal you and make you whole. There are many, many people praying for you... people that Mommy and Daddy haven't even met.

Things started to look better. Although your tummy isn't the way it should be, the doctors said they could fix it. Mommy and Daddy were so glad to hear that, and that things were looking better than expected.

Yesterday, we had some more tests done. The doctors found some new things that aren't developing as they should, and some of them can't be fixed. Mommy and Daddy are so sad to hear all of this, because we want so much to be able to hold you, kiss you, and tell you how much we love you.

We decided to name you Isaac. In the Bible, Abraham and Sarah waited a long time to have their beloved son, Isaac. God decided to test Abraham's faithfulness by seeing if he would be willing to sacrifice his beloved son, the one he waited so long for. By faith, Abraham trusted God, and obeyed by walking up the mountain prepared to build an altar and to make that sacrifice. He knew that God would provide whatever he needed (and God did!), but was willing to put Isaac in God's hands and to trust Him. We wanted to name you Isaac because Mommy and Daddy believe that God loves you and will provide all that you need. We trust God to take care of you.

You have been moving around and kicking a lot lately. I love it. I love to know that you're there and that you're alive. I love to put my hands on my tummy and feel you move. Daddy has been able to feel you, too. It's so special to be able to spend that time with you.

I want you to know how much I love you, Isaac. Mommy wants so much to make things better for you, but only God can do that. I can't wait to meet you, to hold you, and to kiss you... even if it's just for a little while.

I love you.

Love,

Mommy
